Be the Change… An Interview with Founder Joel Beverly

Reading Time: 5 minutes

However you come to discover ARTEMES, it doesn’t take long to realise that we are on a mission to change the world for the better. But how did this come to pass?

With a fresh website and new platform on which to share, we decided first to interview the man with the plan, Founder Joel Beverly to find out more about how it all began…

Q. What inspired you to create ARTEMES?

JOEL: I have always wanted to create change. Perhaps this urge is innate in me, or perhaps it came from going hungry and having to shit in an outhouse in the dead of winter. Either way, as a kid I felt that I was different from others around me and that things were not based upon equality. I could not accept that it had to be that way.

After going through many of the typical steps to “success” like studying, learning a lot of things I would probably not need, earning a Master’s degree, etc. I started an environmental consulting company, a real estate company, and a bar/restaurant. All of these had the aim of changing the world in some way.

Looking back I can see that my effort in creating these projects-for-change was in many ways fruitless. I didn’t have a clear vision of where I was going or, as it turned out, even of who I truly was.

Be the change

Q. What do you want to achieve?

JOEL: This project has several facets; we are launching a digital currency, we aim to exemplify the world changing potential of genuinely excellent leadership and we will offer global access to spiritual teachings.

The real change happens however when each individual is awakened to their true potential, and for each individual to come together to create systems that will nurture all of us into the future.

In the past I tried to change the world from within my existing societally shaped paradigm, and was frustrated by a lack of impact. In truth, I first had to change myself. Without this shift there was no freedom. And without freedom, the potential of every project and experience was stifled.

After 12 years of endless work (and partying) my world imploded. I was burnt out, my marriage was falling apart, I had an affair, my father died, and my mother followed four months later.

It was within this implosion that the mental rules that were the foundation of my hillbilly self (and my societal conditioning in general) began to dissolve. This dissolution was followed by confusion but also a very distinct flavor of freedom.

This freedom, and wanting more of it has been my focus for the last five years as I have slowly but surely reconditioned my Self. This time my conditioning evolved not from society, but from the truth that is the Self (and is within each of us). For me, this paradigm shift has allowed for ultimate freedom, happiness, joy and contentment.

I would love for all people to enjoy this same paradigm shift; to experience ultimate freedom, happiness and fulfilment. When I discovered the world of cryptocurrencies, ideas started to formulate. I believe the opportunity of combining this futuristic economy with powerful and truthful leadership is too great to miss, and that ARTEMES could be a genuine starting point for large scale awakening and real change.

Each and every one of us must awaken if there is any chance to create true harmony in this world. With ARTEMES we focus on the big and the small! We focus on impacting big issues, yet give each individual access to tools for personal awakening. I believe that the big issues will be ultimately solved by our global community of awakened individuals.

Q. What will be your biggest challenges in making ARTEMES a reality?

JOEL: The global awakening. Most “normal” people do not want to be awakened, as they are snuggly asleep inside their egoic shell.  I believe the rewards of being part of the ARTEMES system will be too tempting for most to deny.

Be the change

When I consider how blind I was before my awakening and how aware I was afterwards, I can see why world change is so difficult. Most all of us are trapped in the societally conditioned self and from this space of blindness, it is impossible to create change and freedom for all. Not only are most of humanity blind, but so are the systems that we have created and the leaders that lead them.

Our biggest challenge is to create the space where individuals are willing to change.

Q. Why are you so motivated to make a difference?

JOEL: The truth is, I’m not! I could continue working as I have, or move to a beach in Mexico, or have fun creating a project that enhances every person’s time on this planet. In the end, it doesn’t really matter what I do. As long as I am aware, a moment is just a moment and I will enjoy whatever I am doing in that space. Since I must do something in every moment, why not choose to do something fun that might also create a positive impact?

I thought of a world changing concept. Instead of asking the question “why?”, I asked “why not?!”

Q. How can people who are inspired by this philosophy contribute to ARTEMES?

JOEL: This is a co-creative project. I don’t have all the answers, but we do. When we all come together, there’s nothing we won’t be able to accomplish. That being said, there is one thing you can do now, start the process of awakening of your own personal awakening.

The book, this website and additional resources will be here in 2020 to offer you tools for beginning this process, but in the end, it is a project of the Self that only you can undertake.

Here are a few ways to contribute: Visit our blog for new content. Subscribe (for free access to the book prior to launch). Participate in conversations on our social media. Share our project with the people in your life. We encourage all of those things! But without the willingness to experience a personal awakening, this will become a “nice idea” rather than a starting point for you to step into your personal power.

Mahatma Gandhi was credited with the quote “Be the change, you wish to see in the world”. But this is not his real quote! The real quote from Gandhi is far more powerful and something I would like to leave you with…

“We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.”
